TERMINAL POEMS

The Keynote

07 / 40 · II. The Sale

He takes the stage
like a man who has solved
the weather.

Slides bloom
behind him –
hockey sticks
and hockey sticks
and hockey sticks.

Every sentence
starts with imagine.

The audience nods.
Some are live-tweeting.
Some are checking
whether their flight
has been delayed.

He says the word
disruption
like it is a gift
he is unwrapping
for the first time,
every time.

In the corridor afterwards,
someone asks a question
he was not prepared for.

He smiles.
Pivots.
Gives the answer
to a different question
entirely.
