TERMINAL POEMS

Sightline

34 / 40 · VI. The Eye

The camera’s gaze
is not a gaze
but a sorting –

face-to-number,
number-to-name,
name-to-record.

It does not see
the scar above her eye
where she fell
at seven,
or the way
her mouth sets
when she is trying
not to cry.

It sees a match.
Confidence: 98.6%.

Somewhere
a flag is raised
in a system
she will never
be allowed to read.
